May 17th Update

Today is my birthday and I'm so happy to be spending it in Puerto Penasco with my awesome study abroad group. It started off with an amazing french toast breakfast prepared by Glenn and then continued to get better with beach time!

Of course we had some studying in there too and learned all about the Gulf and marine mammals. The most interesting had to be the Vaquita, which is a porpoise only found in the northern Gulf of California. CEDO, the institute we are staying at, has been working really hard to help these animals get off the list as the most endangered species (an estimated 250 are alive today). Currently they are being killed in fishing nets, because being mammas the need to come up and breath air, but they get caught in the nets and drown.

I cannot wait to learn about the sea life down here, but sadly have to head out for dinner.  Expect more pictures soon.
