It's amazing how much Puerto Penasco has developed in just the past ten years.  I remember when it used to be a small fishing town, but it is quickly becoming an urbanized city with a booming economy, largely due to the tourism industry.  In regards to our studies in particular, we had two lectures today, covering coastal conservation, educating the population, marine ecology, the Sonoran Desert, and the uniqueness of the Gulf of California for various marine species.  The most fascinating to me was the Totoaba (a type of endangered fish), which is the reason Penasco was settled.  It had no permanent settlement before the early 1900's, due to lack of freshwater.  Moreover, we are snorkeling and taking our boat trip to Bird Island on Sunday, which I am looking forward to.  I could go on and on, but I suppose that this is good for now.
